In some cases you will have to upgrade your Joomla 1.5 manually. This is recommended when you have heavily modified your Joomla system and / or you have not used Softaculous to install it.
Manually upgrading from any version of Joomla 1.5.x involves overwriting the outdated Joomla 1.5 files. For this purpose Joomla provides upgrade patches for all of its previous versions to the latest one. You can find the patch for your installation at this URL.
After you have downloaded the patch package to your local computer, you can upload it to the installation directory of your Joomla using the cPanel -> File Manager. Extract the patch package file. This will overwrite the existing files and upgrade your Joomla 1.5 
In some cases the upgrade may corrupt additionally added components and modules on your Joomla. In this case you will have to reinstall them.
