"Unable to authenticate to SMTP server.
Bad authentication response from server."
This error message occurs when you have not entered the complete e-mail address in the Username field under the Sending E-mail tab in your Evolution mail client.
You should make sure that the mail username you enter is in the format:
user@yourdomain.com
