When you sign up for a hosting account at Hostlantern with an existing domain name, it is recommended to transfer the domain name to us. This way you will be able to manage the domain name directly through your Hostlantern Customer Area.
We will notify you through e-mail messages when the renewal date is coming. You will not miss to renew the domain name and risk the web site to become inaccessible. Also, you will be able to use the domain name with a private DNS and benefit from our Google Apps manager.
Additionally, we offer an exclusive domain name transfer offer for the major domain name extensions. Once the domain name is transferred, you will get one year of a free domain name renewal.
In the following Knowledge Base article can be found more information about the exclusive offer and the domain name transfer fee.
Here are the steps, which you must follow in order to initiate the domain name transfer.
In the following paragraphs we will provide the specific steps which should be followed at GoDaddy's end in order to prepare the domain name for the transfer.
First, you need to turn off the Domains by Proxy functionality at GoDaddy's end. This can be completed through the GoDaddy's Account Manager. Navigate to the Domain Names section->My Domains->Domains tab. Select the chosen domain name and click on the Manage link in the domains' details area. The Domains by Proxy page will be opened and you will be prompted for the corresponding login credentials. In the new page you can cancel the Domains by Proxy functionality by selecting the proper checkbox and confirming the modifications.
Next, you need to unlock the domain. Open the My Products section and click on Domains. Select the checkboxes besides the domains which you want to modify. Above the list of the domains there is a Locking link. Click on it and deselect the domains which should be unlocked. Confirm the modifications by clicking on the OK buttons.
The last step which should be completed is to obtain the domain name authorization (EPP) code. Open the My Products section and click on Domains. Pick the domain for which you need the EPP code and in theAuthorization Code field click on the Send by Email link. Click twice on the OK buttons.
When the above steps are completed, allow up to one day for the domain name status to be changed and initiate the domain name transfer from the Hostlantern Customer Area->Order section->Domain Transfer. You will receive an approval e-mail at the domain's administrative e-mail account. Use the confirmation link in it to approve the domain name transfer. Then it will take up to 5 business days for the domain name to be transferred to Hostlantern.
If you get an e-mail from the losing registrar asking you to reject the transfer, you can simply ignore it.
