When you sign up for a hosting account at Hostlantern with an existing domain name, it is recommended to transfer the domain name to us. This way you will be able to manage the domain name directly through your Hostlantern Customer Area.
We will notify you through e-mail messages when the renewal date is coming. You will not miss to renew the domain name and risk the web site to become inaccessible. Also, you will be able to use the domain name with a private DNS and benefit from our Google Apps manager.
Additionally, we offer an exclusive domain name transfer offer for the major domain name extensions. Once the domain name is transfered, you will get one year of a free domain name renewal.
More about the exclusive offer and the domain name transfer fee can be found in the following Knowledge Base article.
The steps which you must follow in order to initiate the domain name transfer are listed in the following Knowledge Base article:
In the following paragraphs we will provide the specific steps which should be followed at the HostMonster's end in order to prepare the domain name for the transfer.
First, if there is a privacy protection enabled for your domain name you should turn it off. Log in the HostMonster Account Manager. Navigate to Domains->Domain Manager. Mark the checkbox of the domain for which you want to disable the privacy protection. Open the Privacy tab and click on the Click here to disable privacy on your domain link.
Next, unlock the domain name. Log in the HostMonster Account Manager. Navigate to Domains->My domain names. Click on the domain which you plan to transfer. If the privacy protection is enabled, turn it off as per the above instructions. Open My Products section->Manage Domains and pick the domain which you want to unlock. Click on the Locking link. Select Unlock and change the domain name status to unlocked. Confirm the modifications by clicking on the OK buttons.
The last action which should be performed is to get the domain name authorization (EPP) code. Navigate toDomains->My domain names and click on the chosen domain. Click on Send by email in the Authorization Code section. Click on the OK button. Log in the HostMonster Control Panel. Navigate to Account and Domain Management->Domain Manager. Pick the domain which should be transfered and click on the Edit Public Information icon. Choose the Retrieve EPP Code option.
When the above steps are completed, allow up to one day for the domain name status to be changed and initiate the domain name transfer from the Hostlantern Customer Area->Order section->Domain Transfer. You will receive an approval e-mail at the domain's administrative e-mail account. Use the confirmation link in it to approve the domain name transfer. Then it will take up to 5 business days for the domain name to be transferred to Hostlantern.
If you get an e-mail from the losing registrar asking you to reject the transfer you can simply ignore it.
